Convergence & Divergence in Regional & International Dynamics in Peacebuilding & Peace-Making: The Case Study of Afghanistan Since Doha Talks
This report presents the discussions of a Peace Panel held during Geneva Peace Week 2025 on the grave situation in Afghanistan since the Doha Talks. Moderated by Ambassador Dr. Andisha, the panel brought together Ms. Fawzia Koofi, Mr. Mirwais Naab, Prof. Michael Semple, and Dr. Mustafa Mastoor, who examined the failures of past peace processes, the exclusion of women from peace efforts, the weaponization of women’s rights, and the broader regional and international dynamics that have deepened Afghanistan’s crisis.
The report further highlights the panel’s assessment of the failed promise of Doha, the growing geopolitical divergence around Afghanistan, the danger of radicalization, and concerns related to regional instability and nuclear security. It concludes by stressing that compromise with the Taliban cannot deliver peace, and that the path forward requires supporting diverse Afghan democratic forces, creating safe spaces for political and civic dialogue, and reviving a genuine peacebuilding agenda to prevent Afghanistan from falling deeper into geopolitical crisis.
