The side event was aimed at examining the role and potential of the UN treaty bodies in holding the perpetrators of human rights violations and abuses in Afghanistan accountable, with a particular focus on raising awareness of the individual complaints procedures and the challenges associated with the lack of jurisdiction of the committees to receive such complaints in absence of accession to related protocols.
The event was organized by the Center for Dialogue and Progress-Geneva (CDP-G), in collaboration with several non-governmental organizations, including Action for Development (AFD-Suisse), Center for Human Rights Advocacy (CHRA), Human Rights Defenders Plus (HRD+), and World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT), highlighting the signifi cance of this issue.
